In Dubai, one name stands out in the culinary scene – the illustrious Chef Izu Ani. Known for his exceptional talent and innovative creations, Chef Izu has left his mark on the global culinary stage with a portfolio that includes iconic venues not only in Dubai but also across the globe. From the acclaimed Carine and Izu Brasserie to Kai Enzo, ALAYA, The Lighthouse, and Gaia, his restaurants have become synonymous with culinary excellence and exquisite dining experiences. Beyond Dubai, Chef Izu has enchanted diners in the GCC with ventures like Sum+Things in Riyadh and Izu at the Mandarin Oriental, Doha, among more.
At the heart of Chef Izu’s culinary empire stands Izu Burger, where the philosophy of ‘Dirty burgers, clean ingredients’ has captured the palates of food enthusiasts. What began as a delivery-only concept in 2021 has blossomed into a full-fledged restaurant, offering a warm and inviting space for friends and families to come together over expertly crafted burgers. Inspired by Chef Izu Ani’s culinary vision, Izu Burger promises a dining experience like no other, where every dish is a testament to the finest ingredients and impeccable craftsmanship.
The spatial aesthetics
An edgy eatery at Boxpark, Izu Burger embodies an industrial aesthetic of the venue, highlighted by exposed concrete and chic blue ceramic tiles, sets the stage for a dining experience that is both trendy and welcoming. As you savor each bite and soak in the vibrant atmosphere, you’ll discover that Izu Burger is not just a restaurant – it’s a culinary journey that celebrates the creativity and passion of Chef Izu Ani.
The super satisfying burgers
Here the burgers are made with only the finest ingredients, stacked high with each layer with sauces and juicy goodness. We tried the Potato Bun Burger, made with a choice of Australian Wagyu Beef or 150-day grain-fed Canadian Beef, smothered in melted Emmental Swiss Cheese, and signature sauce, and nestled between a soft Potato Bun. The best part is the size is just perfect; it’s neither super huge nor miniscule in size.
Another was the Milk Baguette Burger, a unique twist on a classic favorite. Featuring fluffy bread enveloping either Australian Wagyu Beef or 150-day grain-fed Canadian Beef, and adorned with Emmental Swiss Cheese and signature sauce, this burger is moreish, juicy, and loaded with understated flavors.
And while typically I’m a stickler for beef in my burgers, here, the Spicy Chicken burger was impressive with its buttermilk cornfed chicken glazed in a sriracha maple sauce, spicy dust, and topped with coleslaw drizzled with spicy mayo, all nestled within a pillowy potato bun. I enjoyed it and it was certainly not like the usual chicken burgers in the market. We also enjoyed the fries at Izu Burger; from the Izu fries, seasoned with an Izu spice blend, Yangnyeom, parmesan, and Theo olive oil, to the truffle fries with hints of parmesan and truffle mayo. I also enjoyed the salted caramel shake that complemented my meal perfectly.
Adding to the experience, the burger boxes at Izu Burger are adorned with whimsical phrases like “good food, good mood” and “nourish to flourish,” setting the tone for a fun dining adventure. Izu Burgers is not just for carnivores but also offers a range of vegetarian and vegan options that eschew imitation meat in favor of umami-filled mushrooms.
The grand finale
To be expected, Izu Burger’s desserts align with Chef Izu’s zeal for culinary perfection. One dessert that truly stands out for me is its signature cheesecake with its layer of tropical passionfruit on top, infusing a tanginess to the creamy cheesecake. However, the dessert that stole my heart at Izu Burger is the Hokkaido soft-serve ice cream topped with fresh fruit. Made with Japan’s renowned Hokkaido milk—Hokkaido’s unique climate and fertile farmland make it the perfect place for dairy production, with the region contributing over half of Japan’s milk supply. The use of fresh, farm-made milk is what sets Hokkaido ice cream apart, giving it a rich and velvety texture that is unmatched by ice creams from other regions.
Final words
In conclusion, Izu Burgers offers a unique and delightful dining experience with its gourmet-style burgers, sides, shakes, and desserts. The casual and laid-back ambiance of the restaurant makes it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family.
