Review: Nonya Dubai, The Taj, JLT

Stepping into Nonya is like stepping into multiple venues under one roof, with multiple private dining rooms, two terraces, a high energy room; and a spectacular view of Dubai’s stunning skyline.

The appetizers

With a menu featuring key Singaporean and Peranakan influences to its culinary offerings, highlights from the appetizers included the soft chili crab—a buttery soft crab with a chili dipping sauce.

The truffle lotus stem was new to me, with crunchy lotus, garnished with chili and spring onions. We also loved their signature Wagyu Robota, which was moreish Wagyu skewered up and served with peanut sauce. Their Nonya non-vegetarian dim sum selection was really enticing, with their tiger prawn har gao, scallop and chicken Szechwan wonton, also served with a sweet dipping sauce.

The mains

We loved their Nonya black cod, which was steamed, and served with Nonya’s secret sauce and a side of vegetables. Their signature Nonya chicken curry with potatoes was hearty and went well when we dipped it in the curry. The Assam prawns were mouth-watering, with the slightly tangy tamarind paste which had an umami flavour, while the beef redang was a tender braised beef tenderloin with galangal, coconut, and was accompanied with a light blue pea flower rice. Desserts included mango sticky rice and also, mochi ice-cream; which punctuated this meal perfectly.
